Competition Lines
Lines are groups of dedicated dancers working toward developing
leadership skills, teamwork, and confidence through dance. Line members
create lasting friendships while experiencing responsibility,
discipline, and personal achievement. In addition to all this, and most
importantly, the students
have a great time!
Lines give dancers more opportunities to perform than regular classes.
These performance opportunities include two annual local and regional
competitions, one national competition, recital and our annual Christmas
extravaganza held to feed needy families during the holidays. The
Christmas Extravaganza has impacted the community so much, the mayor of
Gahanna presented director Jeri Pinnell with her own official holiday in
honor of the show.
Competition line members receive professional training through their weekly competition class, technique classes, PDC's guest artist series featuring nationally known chorographers and dancers, and a dance convention where enthusiastic, professional instructors from New York or Los Angles instruct a variety of classes.
Also setting PDC apart, is our Pinnell Big and Little Sister/Brother
program for line and company members. Young dancers are paired with
older dancers to get acquainted with our program. The Big Sisters and
Brothers provide excellent role models for the younger dancers to look
up to. This exciting introduction takes place at the annual Pinnell
Dance Centre Slumber Party, where dancers share their routines, play
games, and meet their Big/Little Sister/Brother.
Pinnell lines always thrive at both local and national competitions. We have won
top honors and national titles all over the country. In fact, Dance Spirit
Magazine and Dance Teacher Now, rated Pinnell Dance Centre as one of
top 50 competition studios in the nation. Through participation in competitions,
Pinnell Dancers have received scholarships to Broadway Dance Centre in
New York City and The Edge in Los Angles. Also, through participation in
competition lines, Pinnell Dancers have had the opportunity to perform in The
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Hula Bowl, and Red Hot Broadway.
Competition lines give students the opportunity to grow not only as a dancer,
but as an individual. Dancers learn good sportsmanship, gain self-confidence
through performance, learn strong values, and much much more.
